The Chinese people have celebrated the "Chongyang Festival", also known as Double Ninth Day on Tuesday to show respect to senior citizens.
In Yuhang city in east China's Zhejiang Province, 90 year old Hu Dexin and his wife joined with dozens of elderly couples for a specially-prepared meal for them.
Attending the activity organized by the local government, Hu Dexin was very happy on this particular day.
"We have good health and hope to live long lives. We thank the government for taking special care of us."
Nearly 50 senior citizens over the age of 80 in the Xinlan village of Southeast China's Fujian Province also received additional pensions for the Double Ninth Day.
In East China's Shandong Province, 280 elderly people held an interesting bodybuilding contest to celebrate their festival.
The "Chongyang Festival", or Double Ninth Day is a traditional Chinese occasion in which respects are paid to the elderly. It occurs on the ninth day of the ninth month of the Chinese lunar calendar, and falls on October 7th this year.
