From November 7th to 9th, the Population Ageing and Modern Society Development Forum was opened in Guangzhou. Over 100 experts participated in this forum and expressed their ideas and opinions. It was estimated that, the total amount of senior citizen in China would reach 174 million to 2010; over 300 million in 2026; and 400 million to the year 2041.
¡°The population ageing speed is unparalleled in the first 30 years in the 21st century, which is also one of the fastest increased ageing countries in the world.¡± said Lu Huajie, the professor of Department of Sociology of Beijing University. Tow years later, with those people who was born in 1950¡¯s entering the retirement, the ¡°baby boom¡± after the World War Two would become the ¡°retired boom¡±. Lu also pointed out that, in the future, China would become the country which holds the largest amount of aged people before 2080. And this amount would no less than 350 million in the year 2100.
Du Peng, Director of Gerontics Research Institute, estimated that, the amount of aged population in China would be increasingly grown, and China¡¯s population ageing was coming to a fast growing period: 200 million in 2014; 300 million in 2026, and 400 million in 2041.
